Digitalization is turning our working world upside down: job titles are becoming less important, while roles and activities are gaining in significance. swissICT is responding to this change by developing its standard work on ICT professions into ICT roles.

Approximately 240,000 people are employed in the field of information and communications technology (ICT). According to the Statista Research Department, the information technology and services sector accounted for three percent of total gross value added in Switzerland in 2021. Thanks to digitalization, the number of new, attractive roles continues to grow and the job prospects for qualified IT specialists are extremely promising.

Who is our website for?
The website is aimed at companies, HR departments, career, entry and guidance counseling services and professionals. You also benefit from a uniform basic professions description, ensuring transparency and comparability.
In this publication, the authors have focused only on the descriptions for relevant careers that have a practical meaning in computer science, telecommunications, organization and project management. Many of the roles not listed in this publication can be derived from the basic professions described.
The competency model, divided into technical and methodological competencies, business and position-related competencies and personal competencies, meets a major need in ICT training.

Objectives of role descriptions
From 1986 to 2017, “ICT Professions” was published periodically in book form. Since 2018, all information has been available in the online version. The website contains clear, comparable and practically applicable role descriptions with professions requirements profiles for roles in information and communications technology. You can also find information on training and continuing education opportunities in Switzerland.
The swissICT annual salary survey is considered a standard work and is based on these role descriptions. Like the ICT salary study, the role profiles are also available to companies and individuals, meaning swissICT is creating two indispensable tools for a transparent Swiss professional landscape in the field of information technology and services.
“ICT Roles” has established itself as a generally accepted standard reference work in companies and administrations, among workers, job seekers, career counselors, employment agencies, training managers and examination organizations. It is now an essential part of the ICT industry in Switzerland.
The descriptions are increasingly used for training measures and as a guideline for examination concepts in the field of computer science. The Swiss Federal Statistical Office uses the role profiles to carry out ICT studies.
